Info: Smooth sumac is a colony forming shrub that is common along roadsides and edges of woods in Missouri. They are particularly noticeable in the fall, when you can notice large patches of their beautiful red fall color. Best planted in an area where you can let a colony establish. Their bloom turns into bright red berries in late summer. The berries are edible and are often used to make sumac lemonade. Cardinals like to build their nests in sumacs.
