The Nursery:

In The Nursery we grow a large a large variety of native grasses, sedges, and forbs all from seed. We also grow many species of native trees and shrubs both from seed and bare root stock. For seed production we use a variety of methods such as directly sowing seed outdoors and controlled stratification using refrigerators.

Each year we produce enough plants to supply our retail location with plants for the current years fall and the next years spring inventory. We over winter our plants out side and let them break dormancy in the spring when they naturally would. Due to this practice our plants are ready to go in the ground the day you get them from us, they are already hardened off. however due to this practice our inventory is staggered in the spring time with new plants become ready for sale each week as the all start waking up from their winter hiatus

We spend much of the summer and fall months repotting plants and getting them ready for sale or over wintiering.

RETAIL LOCATION:

The retail location is not only a place for people to buy locally grown native plants, but also a space for people to gather, get ideas for their own projects, and a place to sit and enjoy nature. Our gardens are inspired by some of the different eco-systems of Missouri and Kansas. They mimic prairie, savannas, and woodland eco-systems.
